Kielder Forest Products Limited was established in 1992 to process and market the brashings generated from from harvesting operations in Kielder Forest.

The Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of A.G.Waugh & Sons Limited, whose main business is agriculture.

The Company

Whilst conducting business with the Forestry Commission we saw an opportunity to process the brash and market it in various forms, specifically for fuel. Fact finding visits to USA, Germany and Sweden were carried out and were useful to research the potential of woodfuel.

KFP, in conjunction with ETSU, have carried out a number of innovative projects into the most cost effective, efficient method of screening and drying woodchip. The object of this is to maximise the calorific value therefore becoming more competitive with fossil fuels. The commercial woodfuel market is growing and R&D into alternative markets is always ongoing which includes handling, chipping, screening, transporting and drying of wood chips.

KFP sell Safety Playground chips tested in accordance with BS EN 1177:1998 and BS 7188, Fibre Bedding, Equestrian Surfaces, Walkway Chips, Biofilters, Woodfuel and Mulch.
